PUZZLE4PEACE PROJECT

The big puzzle
Puzzle for Peace is an artistic project of solidarity. A long entertaining, road, artistic as well as instructive, that will unfold throughout Italy and the rest of the world until its culmination at the 2015 Expo in Italy. The first stop on this big tour is the Puzzle Festival in which more than 22,000 pieces of puzzle (each 60x60 cm), will create the biggest contemporary pluri-participated art piece in history- the biggest puzzle in the world. With its size of over 5,500 sq. meters, it will top the Guinness world record. Meanwhile, the puzzle pieces are creatively and uniquely designed by different invited and selected artists, giving life to artistic installations, always changing thanks to the modular capacity of the pieces. You can find theses installations in squares, nightclubs, cultural non-profit organizations, shops, theaters, expos, office buildings, and so on. They represent the peace message through the promotion of art and creativity. Puzzle for Peace is an epic puzzle, encouraging the participation, and becoming an occasion to share knowledge, thoughts, experience, and emotion. Offering new stimuli, targets, and cooperation, continuously taking the project to the next level. This project is always open to new connections and invites developing nations, industries, craftsmen, artists, schools, and institutions join the road of the Puzzle. From the union between the know-how of the Italian companies and the designers who created the Puzzle for Peace project, was born the line of eco-design, P.O.P (Pieces of Peace). Not only pieces of puzzle utilized for creating the grand puzzle and the base for artistic expression, but also the objects of diverse functions (such as tables, lights, bookshelves, carpeting, pavements...). It is a perfect synthesis between sustainability, environmental awareness, beauty and functionality.

Solidarity, sustainability, creativity
Puzzle for Peace Project other than promoting contemporary art through its diverse methods of expression, it becomes a colorful means for awakening attention to all of the concrete behaviors that can be adopted for creating a peaceful society. In order to reach this ambitious goal, Puzzle for Peace intends to promote developing nations, transmitting its values with strength and creativity. The activity will be sustained through a grand auction in which the uniquely and artistically designed puzzle pieces will be sold. Puzzle for Peace is promoting the synergy and solidarity, believing in a peaceful society. Not only working with private interest as the mail goal, but acknowledging that the common interest and well-being is the true way to reach its sustainability. Also the P.O.P. series positively exemplifies the capacity of the commercial world to listen and respond to the social needs. It is an important part of the solidarity message implicit in the big puzzle, because the financial resources gained from the sale of pieces from this series will also be used to create lines of micro-credit in support of social and ethical responsibility. We are openly inviting any projects and/or activities from developing countries that could be object of this type of financing.

Where & when?
Since April 2007, when the project's campaign "I am a puzzle maker" was launched, Puzzle for Peace has recruited over 10,000 participants during 40 different events all over Italy. These participants have been painting, writing, performing, and giving an additional dimension to the creative puzzle. All of this participation will culminate in a 10-day puzzle festival, to take place in the Vigorelli Velodrome, in Milan. For any other information, check out the dates on the website or sign up for the mailing list.

The Guinness Puzzle World Record
The big puzzle is intended to become the Guinness World Record: the world's largest puzzle, as well as the biggest contemporary, pluri-participated art piece ever made. Lasting 10 days, during which personalities from the cultural and political world, schools and society will participate in the formation of the puzzle. Each of these people will lay down their own piece on which they have graphically expressed their vision of peace. These pieces will be the frame of the puzzle, symbolically representing a united and cooperative world, in the search for socially sustainable development. The central subject of the puzzle will be the work of contemporary artists invited to interpret the values promoted by the project through a dynamic large performance on the last day. The event will be accompanied, throughout all of its duration, by multi-disciplinary artistic performances, concerts, theatre and cabaret shows, DJ sets, expo and debates favoring collective moments of reflection on the suggested themes through entertainment and art. The event will be documented from above by a hot-air balloon, lit in the night by a Picasso style dove, created from the P.O.P. line's puzzle form-like lamps, and acting as a link of the great puzzle. The non-profit associations, artists, craftsmen and others who work under the theme of ecological and social sustainability have at their disposal space for sharing information on this message. The big puzzle breaks all records.

Non-profit
Puzzle for Peace believes strongly in developing nations, mainly those institutions that work from the inside of the financial network, placed strategically between the government and the market, remaining however independent and privately established, focusing on the production of goods and services collective. Puzzle for Peace also believes that the third world sector has the capacity to be an important link to maintain social cohesion, allowing different social groups to communicate with each other to encourage cultural exchange, know-how, solidarity and cooperation. This venture encourages developing countries to take part of the project and use it as an efficient means of communication of their needs and demands for self-employed activities and projects to be financed and promoted by Puzzle for Peace.

Solidarity, but how?
Puzzle for Peace is a grand charity effort that intends to economically sustain the developing countries sector, with the belief that in this support there is great potential to create peace and a sustainable future. We believe that the creation of the lines of micro-credit in ethical banks, is the most operative way to reach these ends. In this way, Puzzle for Peace intends to:

- vary the charity sector by supporting self employed micro projects in different areas
- support new businesses, small in size but large in their capacity to cooperate and develop a sustainable future - endorse corporate responsibility and access to credit and produce lasting sustainability and significant cultural spin-offs
- promote ethical financing

Anyone can contribute and support in the following ways:
- participating in the charity auction that will take place after the Guinness Puzzle event
- buying the objects from the P.O.P. series
- sharing knowledge

Projects in the schools
Puzzle for Peace believes that the younger generation should be positively stimulated, invited to play, as well as become conscious and involved with social processes. Moreover Puzzle for Peace Project believes that ideas, values, and beliefs of the youngest are the sense of our society, the direction, the future life. With this premise, Puzzle for Peace has activated Pensieri di Carta, the didactic way of the project, and invites all teachers interested to bring Puzzle for Peace's ideas into their classroom. Pensieri di Carta talks to the children about the ecological and social sustainability, about creativity and art, introducing such things with fundamental instruments for creating a peaceful future. The model of Pensieri di Carta, is an experience carried out in Canada, presented again to involve thousands of different children, brining to them a puzzle piece of recycled carton, on which they can creatively design their vision of the examined concepts, rendering visible the thoughts and aspirations of the most young, Inside the schools in which the themes of the project are examined, it in addition is an opportunity to obtain statistic material from a questionnaire distributed to the children.
